What's going on in Room 125?

Weekly update: 1-17-2013

on January 17, 2013

Hi there! A few update from Room 125:

The cases for our iPads are on, our account is set up, and as a result, each student now has a designated iPad!  We are still awaiting the arrival of the voucher card used to purchase apps, but each iPad is equipped with several free reward apps. As a result, we are currently using the iPads as motivators: students can work for them as their free choice during centers and gain access as a reward for good behavior in inclusion classes. Students have seemed motivated by the iPads…it is great to have a reward they can all connect to!  I am excited to continue to grow as a technology-able classroom and will keep you posted as we progress with our iPads.

Classroom Train

Yesterday we completed our classroom train for the first time. For the special surprise, we dropped everything and went out for extra recess, which was perfect timing with the lovely weather. Way to go following the rules and working together, Room 125!  Now we will work to build a new train for another surprise.

Upcoming Events

I updated the calendar tab with some upcoming events. Make sure to stay up to date with the Edison calendar using the Edison website (http://edison.dpsk12.org/calendar-2/) and checking fliers in Thursday folders.  A quick note about the Family Dance on February 15th. Teacher Treasures (which were formally auctioned during Edfest in March) will be auctioned during this event. This is a great fundraiser for our classrooms, as well as a fun opportunity for teachers and students to spend some fun free time doing something special. I will likely be auctioning “Climbing With Ms. Wales”. Other teachers that the students in Room 125 will also have items, and I know any of us would love to do something special with the students, so check out the items on February 15th!

Continuing Education

As some of you may know, this week I started a Master’s program at the University of Northern Colorado. I am pursuing the Autism Certificate Program and the Early Childhood Special Education degree/licensure program. I am excited to expand my knowledge in ways that will be directly relevant to this classroom. I look forward to incorporating my learning into my teaching.

Have a great long weekend!

-Ms. Wales
