What's going on in Room 125?

Absent Tomorrow, 3-1

Families-

I am sorry to say that this evening I became suddenly and unexpectedly ill. I will have a substitute teacher tomorrow. All of the paras will still be there and I hope and expect that the schedule will remain relatively normal.

I apologize for the late notice, and hope this does not effect the day too much.

Have a great weekend,

Kelsey

Weekly Update, 2-28-13

Hello!

This was a pretty “regular” week in Room 125. A few exciting things things happened since the last post, so here’s a quick update:

1. Friday we celebrated David’s 6th birthday!

2. Wednesday, Shawn went on a field trip to the Rock Museum with second grade!

3. We welcomed some new 5th grade Recess Buddies into the program.

We practiced “lending a hand” to a friend while playing Froggy in the Middle during Teambuilding. This game allowed us to jump some wiggles out, practice turn taking, and use gentle hands.

In science we touched on sorting and describing “more” or “less”.

Our story this week was “Noisy Nora”, which allowed us to review our voice scale, emotions, and talk about family

Next Week is spirit week! Our school is getting excited for the 3rd-5th graders who will be taking TCAP. Even the younger grades get to have fun! The spirit days are as follows:

Monday Crazy Socks and Hat Day

Tuesday Dress as Your Favorite Book Character Day

Wednesday Be a Twin Day (let me know if you want to coordinate in class)

Thursday Wear It Inside Out Day

Friday Wear a Team Jersey or Edison T-Shirt and Crazy Hair Day

Please check the calendar tab for our upcoming horseback riding dates! I will send home waivers to sign soon.

Let me know if you have any questions! Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update: 2-14-2013

Happy Valentine’s Day!  All students are enjoying Valentine’s parties with their big classes and friends right now. Many students from school have come with good wishes, Valentines, or treats for the students in Room 125. It’s great to have so many friends! As a reminder, the mainstream teachers are as follows:

Kindergarten: Ms. Guckes

1st Grade: Ms. Freeh

2nd Grade: Ms. Martin

Art (all): Ms. Mansfield

Music (all): Ms. Ditta

P.E.(all): Mr. Auday.

This week was a big week for kindergarten. David went on a field trip to the museum with his class and today performed with kindergarten in the kindergarten specials performance. Way to go David!

This week we welcomed our new student, Dylan. We worked as a class to remember, practice, and teach our school rules and routines.  We talked about the 100th Day of School on Tuesday and practiced listening and being calm all week. I am proud of everyone’s patience and flexibility as we adjusted to a new classroom set up, slightly new schedule, and bigger class. Also proud of our new student jumping right into a new everything! Way to go Room 125!

As you may know, it is a Room 125 tradition to go horseback riding in the spring. We just got approved to receive a grant for this therapeutic program again. Like last year we will go to Acres of Opportunities Ranch for 8 sessions starting in March. Stay tuned for more details!

I want to apologize for falling behind on posting picture updates. We have some on the iPad, but some trouble transferring to the blog. Also with so much fun going on, sometimes it’s tough to slow down for a picture. I will try to get some more up soon though!

Weekly Update: 2-6-13

Hello!

I am posting an early weekly update to remind you of a couple of important things happening in the next 12 hours:

1. Tonight at 5:30: Come to Beau Jo’s Pizza in Arvada to enjoy some delicious pizza with Room 125 families. The first Wednesday of the month is “Autism Pizza Night” sponsored by the Autism Society, and tonight is a great night for the families from Room 125 to spend some non-school time together.

2. Tomorrow: Is PJ day (see note in folder)! Bring a buck and wear your PJ’s to help end homelessness. This is a city-wide initiative.

Other News:

On Monday, a new student will be joining room 125. Please welcome Dylan into our classroom! We have been preparing for him and talking about him to make sure that everyone knows we will be getting a new friend. Please remind your children this at home as well. We want everyone to have a successful start with our new classmate!

Edison’s Valentine’s family dance and Teacher Treasure’s auction is next Friday, February 15th. Please come have fun and support our classrooms! There are many opportunities to bid on fun with teachers. My treasure is “Rockclimbing with Ms. Wales”, but there’s many other fun things as well! If you’re able to volunteer at the dance, please e-mail ptaedisondenver@gmail.com. Remember to stay updated on Edison events by visiting the calendar: http://edison.dpsk12.org/calendar-2/

Edison conferences are just around the corner, February 13-20. We will be conducting home visits. Please keep checking your child’s homework folder for more information in the next few days!

As always, please contact me with any questions, comments, or ideas. Otherwise, hope to see you tonight!
