What's going on in Room 125?

Weekly Update: Welcome Back!

Good morning,

Thank you all for the great support and collaboration this first week of school! It has been wonderful to spend time getting to know your children, while starting to learn and practice this year’s routines. Thank you for holding school as a priority and getting your children to school despite heat, transportation difficulties, and juggling other kids. We have a great class and I am looking forward to the year!

This week we focused on basic routines, safety, and relationships. My team and I have been spending time trying to get to know your children, following their lead, and engaging in play to build positive relationships. We have been practicing basic school routines such as walking in the hall, sitting on the rug, and going to different classrooms. We have been practicing for a fire drill (the first one is today) and starting to learn about different Room 125 routines and expecations, such as “first-then” relationships, following a schedule, and following directions. I am very proud of our returning students for doing a great job with all the rules, and serving as role models to the new students. I am proud of the new students for jumping into a new routine and finding time to smile despite such a huge transition.

As we learn more about each other, we/I will have changes to schedules, activities, and expectations to best serve each student’s needs. One example of this is the morning routine. This will be updated in the next few days to allow for more independence and make sure to account for a “goodbye mom/dad/grandma” step. Let me know if you have any ideas for this.

Please continue to communicate via the Homework Notebook about your child’s night/morning, needs, or questions. Remember, the top section of the paper is for you to fill out. Check your child’s backpack today for the first Thursday Folder with Edison information. Please send this folder back to school tomorrow.

Thank you for all you do! Please contact me with any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas. You know your child best and together we will create the best school environment for them.

Have a wonderful day and stay cool!

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who came to Back to School Night! It was wonderful to spend time with your families and get excited for the coming school year. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to meet with me and set a strong communicative start to the school year. I am looking forward to getting to know your children and you in the coming months.

Let me know if you have any questions for the first (or more) days. I know we went over a lot of info very quickly yesterday! Please also note that I added “water bottle” to “things to bring to school.” Our beautiful old building is not air conditioned and it can get very hot!

Thanks again. Talk to you soon!

Hello Room 125 families!

I hope you have had a wonderful summer! It is hard to believe that it is back-to-school time again, but I am excited for what the new year will hold for us.

This blog will be the best avenue for keeping updated on our classroom. I am working on updates for the new year, and will let you know when “Classroom Information” and everything is accurate (there will be some changes this year).

For now, please mark your calendars for a few important back-to-school events:

1. Home visits To catch up about the summer, say hello to your child and get to know them where they are most comfortable, and serve as a physical reminder/transition aide to the new school year, I will be conducting home visits August 16. Please let me know via e-mail (the classroom phone is not hooked up yet) ASAP what time will work best for you so we can schedule your visit!

2. Back to school night is August 22. This is a fun night to celebrate the start of the new year while getting to know the Edison community, our classroom structure and expectations for the new year, and meet your teachers (me and general educators!).

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions. I will give you a call when my phone is up and running, for now comment on this blog or e-mail kelsey_wales@dpsk12.org. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
