What's going on in Room 125?

Tomorrow (Friday)

Tomorrow I will be sending home report cards and IEP progress reports. Keep in mind that for the most part the progress reports are more telling as to how your child is progressing toward their goal. Their report card grades are based on modified standards/goals.

Tomorrow we have lots of fun things going on meaning we are going to have a very different schedule. Please prep your child by reminding them tonight and tomorrow that the day will be full of surprises/”sometimes things are different and that’s ok”. Some things going on are:

-Thanksgiving lunch (and a change in lunch and recess times)

-Science Fair

-Disney Radio assesmbly

-Thanksgiving classroom activities

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your kind words yesterday too! Feeling so much better and happy to be back at school (despite the slippery roads!) Stay safe, and in case I don’t talk to you…have a great Thanksgiving/break!

Out Wednesday 11-20

I am sorry to say that I am still quite sick and will have a sub tomorrow.

Feel free to pick up at 3:30 in the classroom so it’s easier for the sub to know who you are.

Thank you for your flexibility and support. Stay healthy!

Weekly Update: 11-4-13

Good afternoon!

Before the updates, thank you again for your constant support and collaboration. Though present always, it was almost overwhelming last week at Touch the World and carrying into this week throughout conversations I’ve had with each of you about your child. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Now some updates:

1. We have started a “Star Student Work” wall by our classroom door. When you drop your child off, check it out to see some of their good work. We want to make a big deal about the work they are creating when they are trying so hard.

2. The boundaries we created last week for Free Choice have been going very well. Students seem to have a clearer understanding and the space is being better utilized. Thanks for your support with this when you’re in the room!

3. I would like to establish a dress up collection for the classroom. Several students enjoy dressing up, so this can serve as an opportunity of communication, peer play,  and motivation. Further dress ups provide opportunity to practice dressing skills in the classroom. If you have any old clothes that you would be willing to donate to this cause, we would appreciate it! It’s ok if they’re big, since we want to put them over clothes and big clothes are easier to practice some skills with (like pulling up pants). Let me know if you have any ideas for this!

4. I would also like to find other ways to integrate sensory experiences in the classroom. I am considering a sensory table or a rocking chair (these provide almost opposite sensory effects). Other ideas are a squeeze machine or pressure vest. We do not have a lot of space in the classroom for big sensory things, so I want to make sure that our purchase is most beneficial to most students. I would love your input on this since you know what your kids need best. Please shoot me an e-mail or quick note about this when you get a chance.

Thank you for your input. Enjoy the long (and hopefully nice) weekend!

-Ms Wales

Touch the World

Thank you to everyone who came to Touch the World! What a powerful night. I was so touched by the tremendous amount of support you and others showed for our students and our school. With support and energy like that, we really can touch the world. Thank you for all you do for our students, classroom, and school. I am very excited to see our project unfold!
