What's going on in Room 125?

Weekly Update: 12-11-13

This week we are thankful for warmer weather and outside recess! It is a relatively routine week, following the assemblies last week and preceding the holiday fun next.

Today, Ms Paula did some fun holiday motor activities with the class (see the new pictures).

Some fun things will be happening next week.

1. Literacy Night is next Thursday after school. This is a fun Edison tradition involving dramatic readings of the Polar Express, holidays around the world skits, and classroom activities. It’s also a giant PJ party! My role varies each year based on our needs. My plan for this year is to hold our classroom as a break space. This way, you can check out the activities in your child’s general education class, participate in the reading, etc, but come to our classroom if your child needs a break. Then we can catch up too. Let me know what you think of this idea for the fun night!

2. I am attempting to schedule a holiday party with the Recess Buddies next week. Otherwise, holiday parties will be coordinated with your child’s general education teacher.

If you are willing and able, I would love a quick note about some of your holiday traditions. This will allow me to help facilitate conversation with peers, for which this is a hot topic these days.

Let me know if you have any questions or ideas about our last few days of school in 2013!

PS Over break I will be performing with my dance company in Lakewood for a holiday show. If you’re looking for something fun and different to do with your family, it would be awesome to see you there! The music/volume and lighting is similar to most dance performances. For more information, video and pictures, or to buy tickets check out the website: ascendanceproject.com. If many of you are interested I could ask about a Room 125 group rate:)

Parent Resources

Also, I added some sites to the “Parent Resources” tab. I hope this tab is beneficial to you; I try to provide a variety of resources which I hope you can utilize at home! I have learned about these sites through the district, graduate school, and colleagues. I try to share those which seem most relevant to our students and families. If you have any other great sources to share, please send them my way. If you have any feedback about those provided, I’d love that as well!

Weekly Update: 12-5-13

Happy first week of COLD! Thanksgiving seemed to lead us right to winter which has meant much more inside time for everyone at Edison. We are trying to find other ways to get our wiggles out in the classroom. Again, I would love feedback about what may be good indoor sensory opportunities for your child, things that you use at home for instance. Please shoot me a quick note with some ideas!
Today is the kindergarten holiday performance! This is during specials at 2:05. We have two students performing in this show. In two weeks is Literacy Night after school. Keep an eye out in Thursday folders for more information about Edison holiday activities such as these!

I think I have spoken with all of you, but just to make sure…we have hired a new paraprofessional to join our team! We hope that she will start within the next few weeks. I will be sure to introduce you when she is here!

Please be sure to dress your child for the weather. We have indoor recess when it is a cold as it has been the past couple of days, but most days we go out. Be sure to bundle up as we get into real winter now.

Let me know if you have any questions. See some of you later for the show!

-Ms Wales
