What's going on in Room 125?

Weekly Update: 1-29-15

Spring parent teacher conferences are just a couple of weeks away! K-2 conferences will be held on Tuesday, February 17. 3-5 grade conferences will be held Thursday, February 19. Please let me know your top 2 conference times ASAP. I will try to accommodate everyone’s schedule, but will likely be unable to meet everyone’s first choice. Thank you in advance for being flexible. (Math Night will also be on Tuesday the 17!)

Project Cam Opener

You may have seen my post on the Recess Buddies website about Project Cam Opener. The district has provided me with video and microphone to record my practice to share with other teachers. I have planned to use this to support the Learning Lab group I have been working on with other teachers of students with autism in the district (you may remember I worked with this group for a half day in the fall). My hope is this technology will support us in sharing ideas and modeling different practices to support students with autism. I will be sending him a generic letter about this project today. If you are opposed to your child’s participation in these learning videos, please fill out the objection and return to me ASAP. Again, the video will be used for other teachers, not published in the media.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns regarding these two items or anything else. This week I have been experimenting with a few minor schedule changes and activities at my teaching table in response to  the data I have been collecting for each student’s IEP goals. Ms Shelly continues to learn more about our classroom and jumps in to assist and help as she gets to know the students more and more.

Have a great day!

Weekly Update: 1-15-15

As most of you by now know, the biggest update of the week is the start of our new intern, Ms Shelly! She will be with us until Spring Break. Thank you for welcoming her into our classroom as she learns with us over the next few weeks.

I am going to email you the pages I talked about last week with what we are working on specifically after I post this update. Let me know if you have questions about these or if you need ideas how to work on these skills at home. (Thank you to Ms Shelly for helping create these pages for us!).

Tomorrow is Stock Show Spirit day…feel free to come to school dressed as a cowboy/girl. We will also have our First Friday assembly. Fun:)

Have a great weekend!

Weekly Update: 1-8-15

Hello and happy new year!

We are starting the new year focusing again on rules and routines, settling back into the school groove. I’m proud of the class for coming back from break largely ready to work and be rockstars! We have started a few new activities and routines, which students have been doing well with.

Please remember to talk about the school rules with your child at home, and celebrate when they have done a good job (you should be able to see this in the notes pages). Please let me know if there is something else you’d like to see in the notes pages. I want to make sure these are serving you in giving you a snapshot or quick updates about your child’s day.

I am going to work on a quick summary for each of you as to what exactly your child is working on here in relation to their IEP goals so that you have a better idea of what specific step you can work on at home. I’ll keep you updated as I get this made!

You have probably received information about choice applications for school. According to my special education support partner (in charge of placements into this program at Edison), all of my current students are assigned to this classroom again next year. So, you should not have to complete any choice paperwork. If you have any questions or uncertainties about this, let me know. Also, if you receive any information that differs from this, please let me know ASAP

Our First Friday assembly is actually going to be next Friday (which is also stock show spirit day). Other than that, pretty “regular” days for the next couple of weeks.

Have a great day!

-Ms Wales
