Morning Routine

Hello again!

Thanks for your patience and flexibility as we get things up and running these first few days.

In order to assist with learning the new morning routine, I am going to focus on supporting students at drop off, rather than talking to parents. Please write to me in the home-school communication book and/or email me with any updates or questions and I will connect with you that way for now. While I love to connect with you in person in the mornings, communicating in these ways will allow me to better assist students in the morning as they learn the routine and expectations.

Let me know if you have questions!

Thanks,

Ms Wales

First day of school tomorrow!

Good morning!

Happy last day of summer vacation! I am so looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for the first day of school! Please do the following to prepare:

  1. Review the “Classroom Information” tab, especially the pick up and drop off procedures and what to send to school.
  2. Share the “Edison Pictures” with your child and talk a lot about school tomorrow to help with the transition.
  3. Send a hard copy or email me a picture of your family to include on our bulletin board and to serve as some home comfort for these first days.

Let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, see you tomorrow!

Back to School Night TOMORROW

Hello again!

Back to School Night is tomorrow, Wednesday August 18th at 5 pm. This is a very important event to kick off the school year. You can join as early as 5 on the field for a whole school picnic. Then, at 6 we will head to classrooms (this is the most important part). Here is the plan:

6pm-all in Ms Wales’s class go to Room 125. I will share information about our class and the beginning of the year as well as answer related questions. You can fill out any paperwork you were not able to complete beforehand (also attached at the end of this post…feel free to print and bring in!) and drop off school supplies. You will have a chance to meet the other students and families in our class this year.

6:30-returning students may go to their general education teacher’s class. You will get the chance to learn about that classroom and meet your child’s inclusion teacher. **New students may meet teachers in their grade level; however, realize that mainstreaming assignments will be made after I get to know the students a bit in the first week or two.**

Also, like last year, I will have a bulletin board for pictures of our families. Please bring in a picture of your family to include. We can put it up tomorrow so that students have something connecting them to the classroom day 1. If you do not have a printed photo, feel free to email to me and I’ll print it out to include!

Please let me know if you have any questions! I am SO looking forward to seeing everyone and getting on the same page (and having fun!) to kick off the year!

See you soon!

-Ms Wales

Below are the forms I will have at Back to School Night (there are three):

Also, please go to the website below if you would like to receive information from the PTA or a classroom parent and/or if they would like your child’s name to be placed in the Edison directory.   This needs to be completed by Friday, August 28.

Home Visit Update

I know this is late notice, but I was able to work with my support partner and have time tomorrow in order to do some home visits! If you are available, please shoot me an email or call the class phone with what times could work for you and hopefully we can work something out! I’d love to connect with you and your children in their own environment, catch up about summer, and learn more about your family as we get ready to dive back into school.

Also, remember, class picnic this Thursday at Edison! Please let me know if you’re planning on making it! (Or just show up, I just want to make sure everyone saw this).

Thanks! See you soon!

Room 125 Back to School Picnic!

Hi families!

I’m baaack!

I hope you have had a fantastic summer! I spent mine playing in the mountains, growing in acro and aerial arts, babysitting, and spending time with my horse and cats. Fun times and now gearing up for another rockin’ year at Edison!

It’s time for our back to school class picnic! Here are some reasons why I love this event:

  1. It’s an opportunity to connect with new and returning families and get to know our class community.
  2. It aids in the transition back to school by allowing students to be at Edison, see me, and see each other in a fun and relaxed way (outside, playground, lunch, fun!).
  3. We have a chance to catch up about summer without also trying to talk about all the school things (this will happen Back to School Night).
  4. You can complete your registration in the office the same day and I’ll be there to offer assistance if needed. I’ll also have my classroom info forms for you to complete if you’d like to do this prior to Back to School Night (which can get so busy!)
  5. We build the psych for school!

And now, the details:

What: Room 125 Back to School Picnic

When: Thursday, August 12 at 12 pm

Where: Edison Elementary’s outdoor amphitheater (right by the “big” playground behind the school)

What to bring: Your own lunch and water, a picnic blanket (if desired)

I hope everyone can make it!

I’d love if you had a moment to send me a quick email (kelsey_wales@dpsk12.org) to let me know if you’re planning on coming and fill me in on anything about your child or your summer you’d like to share prior to our picnic.

Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon! (Please tell your children I am SO excited to see them!)

-Ms Wales

PS A note about home visits…

At the end of the year I laid out the back to school plan, which usually entails this picnic, Edison’s Back to School Night, and home visits. This year, I am required to attend a multiple day training during the time I usually complete home visits. I am trying to find a way to still visit, but we may need to change what this looks like. I may visit new families first and/or visit as the school year begins. Thank you for your flexibility and patience as I explore new options for this. Because of this change, I am even more eager to see everyone at the picnic!
